DAAD funds KIU

The European University Viadrina, leading the “Competence Network Interdisciplinary Ukrainian Studies Frankfurt (Oder) - Berlin (KIU)”, has been awarded a grant from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The network was successful in the competition alongside the “Denkraum Ukraine” at the University of Regensburg. The DAAD is providing a total of a five million euros for both projects until the end of 2028.

The President of the European University Viadrina, Prof. Dr. Eduard Mühle, commented:
“I am very pleased about the DAAD funding, which we at the European University Viadrina see both as an honour and an obligation: Thanks to the funding, we can further advance the many existing activities to promote and disseminate research, teaching, and knowledge about Ukraine, and together with our renowned international partner institutions in Ukraine and worldwide, we can strengthen and expand them. I am convinced that the network, initiated by the Viadrina, will contribute to a nuanced image of Ukraine and to an intensification of German-Ukrainian relations within a profoundly changing Europe. The funding underscores that we, as the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder), are precisely the right place for a centre for distinguished Ukraine-related research in Germany.”
