Learn More About KIU Fellowships

The KIU fellowship program offers ambitious researchers from all over the world to pursue their Ukraine-related projects together with researchers from the KIU network – that is, European University Viadrina, Center for East European and international Studies, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Freie Universität Berlin, Wissenschaftskolleg Berlin, and Berlin-Brandenburgische Akademie der Wissenschaften.

KIU fellowships will be offered twice a year for 3 months each, starting from October and April.

Information for future FELLOWS: How to find your academic host?

To apply for our scholarships, you will need an academic host who is based at one of the KIU institutions listed above. This can be a person you have already worked with - be it on a project or publication, on a conference panel or similar. It can also be a researcher from the KIU network whom you do not yet know, but whose field of research interests you and fits your profile. You are invited to approach this colleague, propose your possible project, discuss joint ideas and research questions and find out whether you would like to work together.

Information for Viadrina/ZOiS/HU/FU/WiKo/BBAW researchers: How (and why) to be a host?

The KIU fellowship program is an invitation to cooperate closely with ambitious researchers from around the world in your field of interest and related to Ukraine, and to jointly advance cross-cutting new questions, approaches and insights. As potential fellows need to apply together with an academic host from the above mentioned KIU institutions in Frankfurt (Oder) and Berlin, you may become a host for the colleague you would like to work with. This might be colleague whom you met at a conference, with whom you worked in a project or on a joint publication together. You may also be proactively approached by potential fellows to pitch their project idea – if it meets your profile, you are welcome to host; if it does not meet your profile or you might not have time for a new project, you might have an idea of who among your wonderful colleagues might be interested.
